I do enjoy the freedom that working in mixed-media gives me, especially when combining real, photographic and painted elements. Often, this allows the background and subsidiary areas of the work to become an integral part of the image.
The two images at the top of the page were preliminary experiments for a series of studies of birds, which I hoped to develop following a trip to Costa Rica in 2020. The technique of dribbles and increasing transparency at the bottom of each picture is intended to convey the idea of fragility of individual birds, as well as many species worldwide.
