Here are a few sketches and paintings from some of my recent trips abroad, including repeat visits to Normandy and Venice. The most recent set of paintings is a series of paintings of boats from several locations. Six of them are mixed media pieces, combining oil paints with plaster, recycled wood, rope and ground glass, among other found objects. Three others are oil paintings based on photographs which I have manipulated using Photoshop. Under these are several pieces collectively called 'The Eye of the Beholder', which draws on images from a trip to Costa Rica. They attempt to confront the idea of beauty and fragility in nature, in subjects which are not always considered beautiful. Technically, they represent a return to experiments with a wide range of materials, including cling film, lining paper, wall filler and paper towels. I exhibited this series in Purbeck Art Weeks in 2021.

The animal portraits are sketches and larger oil paintings based on photographs I took during a trip to Namibia and South Africa in 2018.
